Turkish doctor says there are more cases of coronavirus than Turkey is admitting


Doctor Güle Çınar was forced to apologize after saying in a secret footage that there are thousands of coronavirus cases in Turkey contrary to the numbers cited by officials. “The number of cases is at thousands.

In a footage recorded secretly during a conference given to medical professionals in Ankara University Faculty of Medicine’s İbni Sina Hospital, doctor Güle Çınar is heard saying that there are thousands of coronavirus cases, as she was talking about the precautions need to be taken at hospitals.

“The number of cases is at thousands. The numbers are not at hundreds as officials reveal. It’s now in the society and Istanbul is in a terrible condition. It also started terrible in Ankara,” Çınar says in the video that surfaced on social media on March 18.

Following the incident, Ankara University Faculty of Medicine forced Çınar to apologize in a written statement, in addition to launching an investigation into the doctor.

More than 9,000 people has been fined for lockdown breaches

More than 9,000 fines have been issued in England and Wales for breaching coronavirus lockdown restrictions. Almost 400 of those fined are repeat offenders and one individual was fined six times, according to data from the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC). In England, there were 8,877 fixed penalty notices issued between 27 March and 27 April, while in Wales there were 299. Police have been given powers to hand out a £60 penalty, reduced to £30 if paid within two weeks, for breaches of the lockdown rules. The fine is doubled for each repeat offence up to a £960 maximum.

393 die in UK after testing positive for COVID-19, taking total to 1,808

Another 393 people have died after contracting coronavirus - taking the UK total to 1,808. The latest increase is a sharp increase from yesterday's rise of 180. The government has said there are now 25,150 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK. In England, a further 367 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died, bringing the total number to 1,651. The patients were aged between 19 and 98 years old and all but 28 of them had underlying health conditions.
