Harry and Meghan to drop HRH titles



Prince Harry and Meghan will lose royal funds and no longer use their HRH titles from spring, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.

The couple will become known as Harry, Duke of Sussex, and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.

Harry, who was born a prince of Wales, will remain a prince.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will also repay £2.4m of taxpayer's money spent on renovating their Berkshire home - Frogmore Cottage.

The announcement marks the conclusion of talks about their future with senior members of the family and royal aides.

The palace statement said: "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are grateful to Her Majesty and the Royal Family for their ongoing support as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.

"As agreed in this new arrangement, they understand that they are required to step back from Royal duties, including official military appointments. They will no longer receive public funds for Royal duties.

More than 9,000 people has been fined for lockdown breaches

More than 9,000 fines have been issued in England and Wales for breaching coronavirus lockdown restrictions. Almost 400 of those fined are repeat offenders and one individual was fined six times, according to data from the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC). In England, there were 8,877 fixed penalty notices issued between 27 March and 27 April, while in Wales there were 299. Police have been given powers to hand out a £60 penalty, reduced to £30 if paid within two weeks, for breaches of the lockdown rules. The fine is doubled for each repeat offence up to a £960 maximum.

393 die in UK after testing positive for COVID-19, taking total to 1,808

Another 393 people have died after contracting coronavirus - taking the UK total to 1,808. The latest increase is a sharp increase from yesterday's rise of 180. The government has said there are now 25,150 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK. In England, a further 367 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died, bringing the total number to 1,651. The patients were aged between 19 and 98 years old and all but 28 of them had underlying health conditions.
